India: Buried newborn baby rescued but mother died
Tamil Nadu (India), SVM News, October 27, 2007: A newborn baby girl was rescued after four hours from the grave who was buried alive under a tree by her mother on October 24 at Kottangadu near Udangudi about 120 miles from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, India. But mother died in the hospital.
"Brahmini (33) had buried her daughter under a tree immediately on Wednesday after delivery as the baby was born out of a illicit relationship. She had been later rushed to Tiruchendur hospital due to bleeding and died without responding to treatment", police authorities said to the Salem Voice Ministries (SVM) News Service.
Police came to know that Brahmini had buried the baby under a tree behind her house only when she was receiving the treatment at the hospital through an anonymous caller and they rushed to the village and rescued the baby.
The doctors found the bay breathing and saved. The baby was now the under the care of the nurses at Udankudi government Hospital. Brahimini, a coolie was living with her 11-year son, born to one Dhanabal, whom she loved but did not marry.
She filed a case at Tiruchendur court against Dhanabal where it was decided that Brahmini's son Ajit was born to him. Dhanabal had appealed in the Sessions court at Tuticorin against the verdict. In the meanwhile Brahmini got pregnant again and delivered a girl baby on Wednesday.
According to police the relatives of Brahmini could not bury her in Kottangudu where she was living as the local residents objected. Then they attempted bury her without postmortem at Theetapuram. Police seized the body and sent for postmortem to Tiruchendur Government Hospital.
